Growing Audience
« on: May 14, 2006, 05:31:55 pm »
I'm a post Sci-Fi channel convert. I heard of Farscape on Ain't It Cool News, where Herc's reviews were often less than kind, but I noticed in the Talkback such a passion among the fans that when Farscape popped up on my Netflix recommended list I thought I'd give it a try. I was put off even then by the weird sequence of the first 8 episodes on DVD--I've still not figured out what order to watch them in. Then, like so many I got slowly sucked in and by Throne for a Loss I was utterly hooked.

My experience with Farscape is thus a little different than the original Scapers. I was brought in by the enthusiasm you original Scapers had. However, I knew from the first viewing that I was watching a show that would end abruptly. That made the doom that hung over John and Aeryn seem that much more real.

With the episode "The Choice" I found that I was becoming depressed--in real life--because John and Aeryn were going to get cancelled!

Now the reason I'm starting this topic: You original Scapers have been legendarily successful at drawing in a larger audience in order to perpetuate the show, realizing success in the PK Wars (which I will be watching tonight for the first time--having gone through the entire 88 show run, via Netflix, twice).

Now that we're here, how many of us Newbies are there?

Have we added to the original fanbase enough fans to support a new incarnation of Farscape?

I can't express enough my appreciation for the original fans who sacrificied to get the message out about this one-of-a-kind show.

Welcome aboard, bwilli.  :)  This forum is kinda tiny.  If you'd like to reach more folks, drop by our ScapeCast forums (we run the only Farscape podcast out there :) ).  You can find it at http://scapecast.org

Another really busy Farscape forum is Terra Firma at http://terrafirmascapers.com

See ya around, and we'd love to hear more about what you like in the show.   ;D

Hello! I'm a newbie too.

I didn't have cable when Farscape first came on the scene. Needless to say, in January of '06 I joined Netflix soley to rent Farscape because Matt Roushe at TV Guide and many Buffy fans kept bragging about this show. I love Sci-Fi/Fantasy shows and wanted to try it out. I watched the first episode and thought it was good, wasn't sure that I was going to enjoy a show with muppets, but by the 6 episode, I couldn't stop. I'm completely obsessed now and actually went to Amazon.com and have now purchased all 3 Seasons of the Starburst edition. I still have Season 4 and the PeaceKeeper Wars on my Netflix and should get the first 5 eppys of S4 this week.

I have spoiled myself by reading the Transcripts of every ep because I couldn't stand waiting for the dumb Mailman to drop off my discs. I also have Season 4 Edition 1 Pre-ordered when it comes out in June because I need to watch every episode more than once....that's the thing about obsession, you have to watch everything more than once in order to get everything memorized. I can do entire scenes of Buffy. ;)

I too was telling my hubby last night how hard it is watching this show knowing that it already ended and it too makes me very sad. I truly wish I had seen it while it was originally airing because it makes it so much different. You can speculate and commisserate with everyone, cause I know how that is by watching Btvs from the start.

I never thought I could love a show as much as I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but Farscape has stolen my heart. Claudia and Ben have AMAZING chemistry that I haven't seen on TV since Buffy and Spike and that's really saying something. I had to get this out as I know no one who watched it but have a friend at work who is going to check it out too. It's so hard when you can't discuss it with anyone cause they don't understand the love. I LOVE my DVD's and just wanted to add my appreciation and tell you all that their is another fan out there, a little late to the scene but loyal none the less.  :)
